Combi USA Recalls 33,139 Child Car Seats due to Harness Webbing Defect

| Jan 6, 2014 | Automobile Defects, Product Liability

Combi USA is recalling 33, 139 child car seats because the harness webbing fails to meet minimum breaking strength requirements established in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, “Child Restraint Systems.”  According to a Combi spokeswoman, one part of the harness that includes a plastic button failed strength tests.  In the event of a crash, the harness may fail and not properly restrain the child in the seat, which increases the likelihood of injury.

Combi will recall three different models because of the defect.  The models are the 8220 Coccoro, the 8815 Zeus Turn, and the 8836 Zeus 360.  The Coccoro models being recalled were manufactured from 09/03/2010 – 12/05/2012.  The Zeus Turn models recalled are from 02/25/2009 – 05/24/2013, while the Zeus 360 car seats were created 08/10/2010 – 05/24/2012.

Combi will notify registered owners and provide free harness replacement kits along with repair instructions.  The recall is expected to begin by February 6, 2014.  Owners may contact Combi at 800-543-7734.  The seats can be used until the kits are made available.
