Boston Scientific Settles Guidant Heart Devices Allegations for $30 Million

| Oct 21, 2013 | Drug and Medical Device Litigation

Boston Scientific Inc., already embroiled in transvaginal mesh litigation, agreed to pay $30 million stemming from claims that they knowingly sold defective heart devices that were implanted in Medicare patients.  Boston Scientific acquired Guidant in 2006 and bought the company for $27 billion.

From 2002 to 2005, Guidant knowingly sold the defibrillator devices even though it knew they could short-circuit and become ineffective at correcting heartbeat rhythms.

In August 2013, Judge Joseph Goodwin announced the bellwether case schedule for the Boston Scientific vaginal mesh cases occurring in West Virginia.  The first set of Boston Scientific trials is set to begin 2/11/2014 and the second set commencing on 6/17/2014.
