Four California Clinics Identified as Receiving Contaminated Steroids

| Oct 11, 2012 | Firm News

More information has become available about clinics in California that may be involved in the meningitis outbreak.

The Ukiah Valley Medical Center, Sequoia Surgery Center in Visalia, Encino Outpatient Surgical Center, and Universal Pain Management in Palmdale have been identified as clinics where contaminated steroids were shipped. The clinics have alerted hundreds of patients that they could be at risk due to the tainted injections.

The contaminated injections were reported to be first  given to patients on May 21, 2012.

If you were treated at these clinics you should contact your Doctor for further information.

On October 10, 2012 the CDC reported that updated information reveals that 12 deaths and 137 cases of fungal meningitis have now been identified as related to contaminated epidural steroid shots.  The number is likely to rise, since approximately 13,000 patients in 75 clinics in 23 states are reported to have received injections with the contaminated steroid preparation to their joints and spine to treat pain and inflammation.

The FDA also recommended that if a product was purchased from New England Compounding Company it should not be used.
